Sleeping at the airport: Germany, Hamburg Airport

2:59 μ.μ. 0
Sleeping at the airports is a good way to save money and time while traveling, but it can be very tiring if the airport is not suitable.

Our first airport to describe will be Hamburg.

Actually, I am writing this post while being at the airport. A guy just asked me to leave the comfortable couch that I found, because it is not allowed to sit there.

Well, this airport is very big and there are comfortable sits everywhere. But not couches with table and plugs. The floor upstairs, where McDonald's are, is closed after 21:30 so there is no way you can continue sitting there.

You need to go and find another place. The problem is that on the ground floor for some reason the plugs are not working. At least ten of them, that I tried.

Everything on the ground floor and the first floor is closed after 21:30, and some counters for check-in closed even earlier. The airport is empty and you can only see the staff that is cleaning.
And some people, like me, who are trying to sleep.

But the lights are never out so it is kind of hard to sleep with all these lights above you. It depends on how tired you are I guess... And nobody expects to find an airport without lights. That would be scary I think 😨

But it is 21:30! It is too early to sleep, too early not to be hungry and too early not to be thirsty. So, make sure, if you ever plan to sleep at Hamburg airport, that you go and sit on the under-the-ground-floor floor! There is a whole new world there!

You can eat, drink, charge your phone, sleep and nobody will ask you to move away because the area is about to close.
There are some positive things, however. The WIFI is free and fast and unlimited! Also, the temperature is very good, you are not freezing nor sweating. The bathroom is also very clean, which is something very satisfying for public toilets.

Of course, all the information is for Terminal 1, because I have no idea what was happening in Terminal 2. But, from my quick visit, I would assume that it is the same situation.

In conclusion, I must say that Germany has some very good airports to sleep at. I have visited Frankfurt, Berlin, and Nuremberg and all of them were very comfortable.
So, If you are traveling somewhere and you need to make a stop at another airport I would suggest you choose Germany.

Always ask twice! (or more) || Our trip to Pula, Croatia

1:00 μ.μ. 0
While staying in Rijeka we decided to visit Pula, a small city only 1 and half hours away from Rijeka. It is known for the Colosseum, one of the best preserved in the world. We thought that just one night and one morning would be enough since it's a very small city. We booked our bus ticket online and also our hotel room as well.

Rijeka to Pula
21:05 arrival at 22:45
Room near the city center, one bed, to guests.
All set!
It's lunch time so we decited to go to Trsat with Angeliki, our friend, the upper town of Rijeka. Ate pasta and pizza, talked and laughed. Later on we went for a walk and some shopping. The hours passed and it was time to go by the apartment to grab our stuff and go to the bus station. We still have an hour before the we were waiting at the Marina, that's only 3 minutes from the bus terminal.

Later on we got up and walked to the bus station. Went by the information desk to check our line and stood by the number 5, waiting for our bus. Just to make sure we also asked the guy who checks the tickets but he told us to wait. It's 15 minutes to 9 and a bus arrives with destination "Pula". It looks quite fancy for the price we paid but still, we had around 30% off of the original price. We went in at 20:50 and asked the driver if our tickets are the correct one for this bus. He said "Da, da haha" (da means yes in Croatian).
So we sat and waited for the bust to start.

"Wow, it even has tables and I can charge my phone!" I said to Olga.
"Yes... but it's a bit early isn't it? I mean it leaves in 15 minutes..." Olga said to me.
"You want to ask again? we checked though, we already asked twice to make sure it's the right bus. But maybe we can ask the driver again" I proposed.
Olga moved to the front part, asked the driver and he said it's the right one. Okay, we're good, or at least that's what we thought.

A couple of minutes later, after we sat the man who checks the tickets came to us to see our tickets.
"Ne, to je pogrešna karta" said the man. (what does that mean? we know as much as you do)
"Uh, ne razumijem!" we said back to him. ("Uh, I don't understand")
"Ne ne, ------(something in croatian)-----"
"Sorry, Ne razumijem Hrvatski!"
"Karta ne, not right"
"Oh what? But we asked the driver" we said while making signs with our hands to let him understand.
"New karta, other karta!!" he said back to us.
Meanwhile it's almost 5 minutes to 21:00
"Stop the bus, we need to get the right bus!" we said
"Ne razumijem!" he says.
(WHAT? He doesn't know the word "stop" or "bus"?)
"Stop please we need to get down!"

After what felt like an hour to us but only two minutes later the driver stops the bus and we get down.
All pissed off and anxious we start running. Keep in mind it's almost 21:00 and our actuall bus leaves in 5 minutes! Only a few light in the street, it's dark so it takes us a few moments to realize where exactly he left us. We run and run and run. The lugguge is a bit heavy and it's even more tiring to run while carring in.
"Which way now???" Olga yells.
"This way" I say and point forward "We are near the student restaurant! Run faster!"

"Fffff, it's 21:00 we won't make it in time! Darn it, they are useless"
Our heart pounding, our breathing is fast and loud. We won't make it on time, we won't, I am about to cry because of stress I'm thinking. I can't belive this is happening!
Legs are starting to feel like they're going to break, we keep running and we see the bus station, it's looks so close but far away at the same time.

It felt like we were teleported somehow and we were back to the bus station on time. Hardly breathing, we asked three people if we were at the right stop.

Finally we made it to Pula and it was totally worth it. A beautiful small town next to the sea with parks and flowers everywhere. The Colosseum was magical under the night sky and when you look at it you feel like you are traveling back in time.

It is a very small town so we didn't have any problem finding the Studio in Pula center. It was an old croatian house, beautiful with two pair of doors and a cozy wooden couch. Of course we didn't enjoy it because we were so tired and we slept immediately. The host even had homemade cake for us!

The next day we woke up early to catch the airport bus, you can also take a taxi or uber but we were lucky this time and there was only one bus to the airport. That was our goodbye to Pula for now.

We are definately going back for an other adventure 😁

Greek hospitality on the island of Sun

3:04 μ.μ. 1

Rhodes is more than a typical Greek island.

The island of Rhodes is one of my favourite places in Greece. Since I first went there, almost 20 years ago, I get excited everytime the days of my trip are approaching. It is a Greek island with all the common things that come to your mind and much more.

People are friendly, the weather is perfect, the sea is blue and the sun🌞is always in the sky. It's not the typical Greek island with the small white houses from the summer vacation advertisements that you see, but a hidden gem in the Agean.

When you visit the island don't expect to follow your schedule according to the timetable. Don't forget: it is a Greek island. The everyday rythm is slower than what you are used to and you need to chill.

There are so many different places that you can visit, from the main city to Prasonisi, and it is almost impossible to keep track on your schedule.
You will find some areas that you want to stay more and some others that are not your kind of vacation destination.

Most importantly, Rhodites, people from Rhodes know how to offer you the ultimate Greek hospitality experience.

My story will be focusing on the apartment I always book when I go there. When I graduated from the UNI I was looking for a reason to live in Rhodes. It took me a little longer than I planned but, in the end, I found it.
I applied at the Agean UNI and the adventure started. I am lucky that once every month I am going there for the classes.

I found Vivian studios as the cheapest accommodation closer to the UNI, so I booked it. It looked very cozy from the pictures and I liked the one with the breakfast basket. When I went there, however, I was surprised.

The room was so much prettier than I imagined. It is the best example to represent a Greek island. Blue colours, seashells 🐚🐚🐚, a balcony surrounded by bougainvillea and so clean that it makes you feel very comfortable.

The hosts were so kind that they gave me a room just for myself, which I enjoyed so much since I was traveling for almost a day (I live very far you see).

Vivian Studios is close to everything you need: Bakery, shops, grocery, restaurants, bank, coffe house, bus stop and yet, far from every noise. The sea is like 15-20 minutes walking, it depends how fast you walk.

They love what they are doing and it is obvious from the decorations to the way they serve the breakfast: The hostess is welcoming you with a big smile and she is carrying the basket with the breakfast delights. Fresh eggs with feta cheese, french toast with tomatoes, fruits, greek yogurt from Rhodes, juice, homemade marmalade and honey.

**You are having your breakfast with a very good company, their lovely cats**

If you stay at Vivian Studios you will enjoy your vacation more, either your are traveling with family or alone it is one of the best choices in the island. Also, they have dormitory rooms if you are a low budget traveler.

*This is not an advertisement about the property but my real experience.

But first let me take a selfie

1:34 π.μ. 0
Everything was planned and organized a couple of days before our trip. We were going to Cres, a beautiful island in Croatia with crystal clear waters and pine-trees.
When you take the catamaran from Rijeka in less than two hours you are at the main town of Cres. But why did we need more than five hours to get to the apartment?

The trip was very nice and we even saw dolphins jumping in the ocean! After an hour and a half the ship started getting close to the port. For some reason we thought that this would be the best moment to take a selfie with all these picturesque houses in the background...

We went outside, on the deck, we posed, smiled and click! The picture was ready thanks to the instax camera, that we always take to our trips. We went back inside to take our bags but suddenly everything was moving. The ship was moving! We saw people walking with their bags and suddenly they were getting smaller... and smaller...

Next stop? Martinšćica. Somewhere around 30' from the first stop.

Quick thinking, no time to panic now!
Check the bus schedule ✔️ No buses
Check the ship schedule ✔️ Every two days
Check the distance ✔️ Only five hours walking. In the middle of the national park and the pine-trees forest.

The only solution was to stay in Martinšćica and return to Rijeka in two days. Or so we thought...

The moment we realized the ship was moving seconds only after we reached the port we took our bags and walked to the exit. On our way thankfully a man working on the ship, responsible for the passengers, saw the puzzled look in our eyes. He saw us going towards him and asked us were we wanted to stop.

-Where are you three going? Where is your stop?
-Uhhh... Cres?
-Oh no... But now we're leaving for Martinšćica! Wait for me here!
- Okay...

We started kind of laughing with our stupidity. How could have missed the stop? Well they didn't announce it, nor did they stayed for more than a minute to the port... and probably cause we also wanted to take a selfie on deck...

Few minutes later the man came back and told us to go upstairs, to the ship's bridge (navigation room). There were about 5 men inside, one of them the captain of the ship. He asked us where we were going to stay and called the apartment owner to inform them about the situation. After a couple of phone calls he gave us directions.

-We have a man at the port who will be waiting for you. There is no bus that goes to Cres from Martinšćica, but there is one from Losinj.
(well we already know that thus we had decided to spend two nights in Martinšćica)
- Aha, and how can we go there?
-The man waiting for you will drive you to the main street, at around 17:30 the bus coming from Losinj will pass that street where there is a bus stop.
-Thank you so much! We will do this, again thank you.

But before we go we need a selfie on the captain's deck!

And after a few minutes of slightly panicking we had our solution, thanks to the men working on the ship. On one hand we felt like a weight to them but on the other the relief we felt wouldn't let us feel down.
About half an hour later we reached Martinšćica. The man was working at the port and then he brought his car to drive us to the nearest bus stop. About fifteen minutes later he left us at the bus stop.

-The next bus should come around 17:30 but don't panic if you don't see it on the exact time because it might be late around 20 minutes.
-Okay! Thank you so much, for everything!

Meanwhile it was raining, like a lot... So we stood inside the house-like bus stop and also laughing at ourselves again! Waiting for around 45 minutes and then we saw the bus coming!

Finally, we will go to our hotel, get warm and cook some pasta! Now it is the best time to use our peel-off masks! Why not? It is raining so we are not going anywhere. We have TV and food. Let's have a spa night!
With the peel-off on our faces looking like we were playing in the mud eating our chips. Then there is a knock on the door!! Which one looks the best? Or the least bad?
A boy brought us the WIFI password and the poor guy tried so hard not to laugh! Three girls with a black thing on their faces looking at him like owls in the dark. We must have traumatised this guy...

After a long day we enjoyed a good sleep and the next day we were ready to go back to Rijeka.
We didn't get to see much but it was a day that we will remember!
We saw dolphins, we stayed in a beautiful apartment, we visited two places in one day and it was for sure a different day than the rest of our week in Croatia :)

*Stay tuned because more stories are coming*
